Network Cameras

Network cameras are often used for security and surveillance so that a system can show several angles and views at one time or in succession based on a loop. Several manufacturers can be found on the market, but the Panasonic network camera seems to be a basic favorite among consumers. How does the network function, and what do you need to do to complete an installation?

A network camera feeds video through a circuit to a particular location, configured to accept inputs from several cameras along the same feed. A network camera connection can involve a direct audio-visual input or can transfer data via the internet or even wireless protocol. When determining how to connect a network camera, it is important to know what type of camera you will be working with. Are you setting up a typical closed circuit network camera that works like a standard television feed? Will you be interacting with the internet? Is the network a wireless connection looking for a signal to reach a modem somewhere back at a control station? In terms of installation, wireless network cameras are the easiest to set up but often the hardest to configure once installed.

An IP network camera (internet protocol) is configured to send signals over the internet and through the phone system in order to reach its destination. Often by doing so, it will be routed through some sort of server, which will process the signal and translating it to a visual image that can be viewed on a television or computer monitor or recorded on a hard drive or backup tape.

A wireless network camera usually incorporates some form of infrared signal to connect with an antenna or a wireless router, through which it will communicate with an intranet system or a closed circuit monitoring system, again allowing security to view or record images taken by the device.

One of the more common cameras used in such applications is the Veo network camera, which is available as a wired closed circuit camera or a network camera that will interface with internet monitoring software. The Panasonic network camera recorder is also popular because it is simple to install and has a built in recording capability, should the network fail.

Security often rests on the functionality of network cameras, so these are important mechanisms that must be guaranteed in quality and reliability to insure the safety of business, school, and retail campuses around the world.
