Infrared Cameras

Infrared cameras are highly specialized and generally used only under certain circumstances. Some are used for security purposes, while others are used for hunting and scouting. Still more are incorporated into use by special ops teams on military missions or by government agencies with operations under surveillance. An infrared camera is an interesting device, when you learn how infrared cameras are used.

In many cases, infrared outdoor cameras are used for security purposes. In order to secure campuses of schools, businesses, and more, infrared cameras are installed near entrances and around the campus. Infrared cameras have heat sensors and can detect a “change” in the environment, such as a person with a warm body entering into a cooler surrounding ambient temperature. Upon detection, the camera will turn on and begin recording activity, catching any trespassers. Some of these cameras will film in typical color or black and white, but for special applications, you’ll find an actually heat sensory readout.

In some areas where an infrared digital camera would be used, it is not necessary to see details, such as hair color and height. Instead, it is important simply to locate various heat sources. Often underwater, an infrared camera can be used to detect marine species that are otherwise invisible in the dark depths of the ocean. In fact, in locations where light cannot be used to make out shapes, sizes, and images, infrared technology can detect a great number of things that are invisible to the human (or optical camera) eye.

A mini infrared camera can be installed in many locations and has been used by spy agencies and in secret government investigations under many circumstances. Because of their miniscule size, they can be planted almost anywhere and never detected without suspicious inspections with magnifying equipment. Such technology can also be incorporated in banks and other financial institutions to assure the security of safes, safe deposit boxes, and even the tills handled by every day tellers. Some homeowners have employed them to be sure that babysitters are not stealing and are treating their children appropriately, especially with all the stories of abused children on the news.

For more information on infrared cameras, review online sources and learn about the features and technology employed by different cameras. Perhaps you would like to use these in your home or office. Think it over and be prepared for the advancement of these devices in the near future.
