Instant Cameras
Instant cameras have been around for a long time and have often been used for special purposes and as a novelty item. When you take a picture in the booth at the mall, an instant camera goes to work and spits out the images within minutes. However, these cameras are still available for all sorts of purposes that you may not even consider.
While there are non-Polaroid instant cameras available, the Polaroid instant camera has long been the industry standard. Perhaps this is because it was the Polaroid name brand that introduced color instant prints to the public first, as far back as 1963. In fact, many people have generalized the term, referring to all instant cameras as “Polaroids”, regardless of the brand in question. Aside from actual Polaroid instant cameras, you’ll find that there are other name brands that have tried to get in on the market, though without the same success.
The Konica instant press camera has been used as the name suggests – by the press, as a unit that can turn out excellent pictures immediately for a top story that is to be published in next day’s newspaper or shown on the evening news. Of course, with the invention of digital cameras, these are less common than they used to be but still very frequently used. The Kodak instant camera has also been quite popular due to the fact that the brand is one of the largest producers of cameras, film, and equipment in the industry. Still, these models never quite managed to outrank Polaroid as the top brand in this particular category.
Today, the most common instant cameras fall into two major categories. Disposable instant cameras are much less expensive than a standard instant camera, since you can purchase the disposable for the price of a package of film for a loadable camera. Since the disposable camera has overtaken the majority of the film camera market anyway, there are no general objections seen to purchasing these units. The other popular option is the instant camera for kids, who love the idea of holding their pictures right away.
In terms of making money, a Polaroid instant camera can come in handy for some applications. For example, if you are in an amusement park, a zoo, or somewhere having an autograph signed, someone sporting an instant camera can offer a picture of the event for a few dollars, shooting a print that cost a fraction of that amount, and earning a huge profit margin.
